Mystery Monday (3/5/12)

Posted on 03/05/2012 by Lance Roper in Mystery Monday

Welcome back to another Mystery Monday contest! Every Monday, we’re going to post a photo from our collection and invite anyone to guess its location. The first person to correctly identify the location will win a prize. To start the year, we’ll be giving the winner a $50 gift certificate towards a framed photograph.

Here are the guidelines for the contest:

  • If you can correctly identify the photo with a link to Google Maps showing where it is, or should be, you win! Leave a comment here on the blog or on our Facebook Page.
  • Whoever identifies the photograph and posts a link to its correct location first, wins!
  • This week’s winner will receive a $50 coupon for any framed print, or simple bragging rights! Whichever you prefer!
  • In order to win, the photo’s location must be correctly identified by this Friday at 5:30PM EST.

If you know of anyone else who would enjoy this blog (or perhaps someone who would be a great competitor,) please send them here!

Let the games begin!

Awesome, a church I've not seen yet.

Corn is in the field behind the cemetery: "The Corn Belt includes the states of Michigan, Minnesota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, and Nebraska." That fact doesn't help narrow the search a whole lot, as Vintage Aerial has ten thousand or more rolls of film for most counties in the eastern two-thirds of that region (though only a fraction of those have been scanned so far).

Also, I don't notice any vehicles that would help us narrow down the year (or decade) this photo was taken.

Unless someone reading this blog has lived or traveled often near this church, I think this is another week we'll need a hint or two.

Indiana, in honor of your sleuthing, Tony.

I've been recuperating from knee surgery the last couple of weeks, so haven't been following Mystery Monday as closely as I'd like. Can we get a year, or maybe distance from Indianapolis?

This was in Franklin County, Indiana. Best wishes for a speedy recovery from your knee surgery.

I must be losing my touch. I've looked through all the Franklin County IN rolls twice and haven't found it yet. I've found six other churches, a nice bridge, and even a geodesic dome.

I give up; I've gone through all the Franklin County IN rolls two more times, and the last time very slowly and deliberately. What roll is this image from?

I've not been able to pinpoint the location of this church and cemetery in Google Maps; however, this photo was taken in 1963 in Franklin County Illinois, not Indiana: http://vintageaerial.com/photos/illin...

A very large lake was constructed in this county (Rend Lake) in the late 60s, perhaps this church was in the area flooded for that lake.
