I grew up in the house (not in the picture) that is across the road to the right of the gas station from 1956-1975. I have great memories of going to the gas station to buy candy and pop and to talk with Frank MacIntosh or Louis Burla, who were the men on duty there. Frank lived in the little house behind the gas station. (This house is no longer there.) I remember once a driver went out of control along 113 and crashed into a gas pump. We heard a terrible explosion and saw the car sitting along the road next to our house. There were flames coming out of the gas pump. (Get Fit 24/7 is there now.)
The Dairy Castle is to the left of Gas for Less. You can see the back corner of that building. It was a drive-in which was only open in the summer and had carhops for a while. My two older sisters worked there. It became more of a walk up business in the late 60s. (The red brick building is in that spot now.)
The land behind the house was “the dump” where we kids played and dug up fossils brought closer to the surface by the mining done there. (There are apartments there now,)
