I believe this is Holcomb with the bank building in the center and Timmy's grain elevator on the right.

The BHolcomb State Bank was one only of 3 banks in Ogle County that did not fail during the depression. The houses on either side of the bank have been removed, the western side for a parking lot and on the east for building expansion. The one story building across the street was Arne's Market and building on the corner was Swenson Grocery, which was destroyed by fire in the early 90's. The building just to the right is the Post Office. Both groceries ceased operations in the 70's. The railroad behind the elevator was the CB&Q at the time of the photo. This part of town is in Scott Twp.

This is the town where I grew up (Holcomb, IL). I would have been 2 yrs old when this was taken.

My family moved to Holcomb when i was 3 or 4
This photo brings back good memories of good wholesome small town living

I was 12 when this was taken. My family has always lived close to and in Holcomb. We moved to Holcomb in 1976.

The bank has been added on to twice. The house and garage next door are gone. I moved the garage to my house now west of Holcomb.

In the forties, the cement block building east of Swensen's grocery was the community freezer or Locker.
The BNSF may be labeled Illinois Railway?

Thank you all for the great history about this photo. Based on your information I have updated the geolocation pin on the map, does this look correct?

My parents - Irvin and Edna Arne - were the founders of Arne's Market in the Mid-1950's. The store's signage ("Arne's Market"}is barely visible in the aerial photo. I attended all 8 grades at Holcomb Grade School. Total enrollment when I attended was about 55 students. We sold the grocery store around 1960 and our family moved to Rockford, IL where I finished H.S. I continue to maintain contact with Bill Neidlinger. His father - Orland Neidlinger - owned the grain elevator shown on the right side of the photo. Wonderful little Midwestern town to have the privilege to have grown up in. Great memories!
