This farm was originally established in the mid 1800s by James Hunter and his wife Sarah Porter. James had come to Houlton from Ireland in 1839 with a group including John Norris Porter and James Hagan. The farm was left to Oscar Shirley who had married James' daughter, Sarah Hunter. When James retired, the farm was sold to Cecil McGinley, another Porter descendant. When the McGinley farms were sold in the 1970s, this one was purchased by Donald Hagan, yet another Porter descendant, who's son Michael now farm the land. None of the buildings are now standing. I spent the first year of my life in that house and worked the land with my father and Uncle, Cecil McGinley, until 1963.
