Charlie McKinney Farm Hopkins Road, Fort Fairfield...now Owned By Steve Griffeth
My father, Charles McKenney, purchased this farm on the Hopkins Road from his grandmother, Almeda Fisher McKenney, in 1955. He built the potato house in 1956. My brother David had a lucrative (for a boy) egg business during his school days. See the small henhouse behind the "garage." Actually, the "garage" formerly served as a grainary and was torn down around 1988. A barn, parallel to the road, used to be to the right of the small, white wellhouse. It had been torn down before we moved onto the property. Dad died in 2010 and title was transferred to the buyers in 2011. The farm as now constituted was bought by original private owners from the state in pieces from 1861 through 1876. My great grandfather John McKenney was born on the farm in 1867, yet his family acquired title to it with purchases in 1869 and 1884.
