My family roots are here on this farm on the Strickland Road in Fort Fairfield, Maine. My great grandparents, Moses and Lucy Hoyt Simmons migrated from Kingfield, Maine, to Aroostook County in the late 1800s to begin farming here. They cleared some of the forest land to plant potatoes. In the early 1900s, my grandparents, John and and Caroline Simmons Fraser (daughter of Moses and Lucy Simmons, my mother's (Madeline Churchill) parents, began farming here. In approximately 1954 my mom and dad, Austin and Madeline Fraser Churchill, purchased the farm. Four of my brothers (John, Gary, Colby and Bob Churchill) then farmed the land from approximately 1965 to 1970. Then my brother Bob began farming here until around 2000. Then our son Matthew farmed the land. I have many fond memories of this place.

Simons,Fraser Churchill Homestead

I caught a hummingbird one time getting fire wood for the wood stove. I remember stopping by on my way to Loring Air Force Base on my bicycle. Lots of good memories on Strickland Road.

Worked that potato house too.

luv lookin @ old photos of that old place,,,makes my heart happy n sad,,

I know your brother John from many years ago, probably he does no recall me, but then maybe. Born in Mapleton, then moved to Presque isle. Worked on many farms doing many tasks. Miss the County, but not the farm work. Still go up time to time

Bob Churchill is my uncle. Sylvia is my aunt. They're still with us and living in Florida. I visited here many times in the 70s as a youngster. The barn I recall (now gone) was SSE of the house. Always looked forward to seeing the old starch plant as we turned onto Strickland Road (now gone).
