Grand Isle Beauprés Restaurant

this was Alan's Cafe in Grand Isle, Maine, with the Carrier family homestead

Was this right on route 1

if you look beyond the potato houses you can see Pepere Beaupres garden the raspberry bushes he loved his garden. a few of his grandsons have his gardening skills. also where the ditch is Mon oncle Guy would flood it in the winter time and make a skating ring

On the left is Mr. and Mrs. Martin and after that it is the Carrier's. You can also see part of my Grandfather's barn, Behind Alan's Café (my home) is the Parent's building. I can still remember taking walks with my Pepere, Uncle Gilbert and my parents to go in the garden or to pick raspberries. The one BIG thing for me was going to watch the trains go by with my Father and Uncle Gilbert. Other special moments were going to play with Ryan Carrier and his brother Dale. We'd ride the plastic "Big Wheel" bike at his home and go visit our Grand Parents Memere Carrier/Beaupre and my Grandfather Jean Beaupre. I have many fond memories of living there and meeting such beautiful people when my parents had their business. Grand Isle and the people I have been surrounded by are all so special to me and will always have a place in my heart filled with so many memories. Thank you for sharing this picture.

Gail, also in peperes garden is where he planted rows and rows of sarriette. I remember when I smelled it for the first time. I fell in love with it instantly and to this day I plant it every spring. I just gotta have it!

Rita, I think we all fell in love with the scent of sarriette, my mom use to keep a huge black garbage bag of it in the basement to dry every year......great great memories and our heritage

OMG< what GOOD food!!!! there will never be another restaurant like ALAN'S CAFE..... I wish I could get hold of some of his recipes........Linda Doucette formerly of Grand Isle. Daughter of Leo & Annie Doucette. Mom loved his food, Guy was nice enough to let her have take outs, when so was too sick to go out. Mrs. Beaupre, you were such a sweetheart. I can still see your beautiful smile. Thank you for such lovely memories.

All the Buildings are gone now except For the old Alan's Cafe Restaurant and the House to the left of it .
