The old "Black Horse Tavern", at the corner of MD-23 & MD-138 near White Hall, MD. The original tavern dated from the mid-1700's. This building dates to the 1850's and either replaced the original, or the original was incorporated into this structure. It is claimed that George Washington spent the night at the Black Horse Tavern in 1773 on his way back to Virginia from Columbia University in New York, where his Step-son, Jackie Custis, was studying.
