This farm is located approximately 2.5 miles north of Grasston, MN and 2.5 miles south of Henriette, MN on State Highway 107. I lived on this beloved 40 acre farm from June 7, 1972 until October 17, 1979. This picture was taken after my parents sold it to the Nelson family who just sold it in 2015. There used to be a log shed where the small white pump-house (110 foot well) where the previous owners kept pigs at some point. The barn burnt down in 2004 due to a fire caused by the railroad train along State Highway 107. The barn was built in 1952. It once was a milk barn but my Dad had it converted to his shop in which he designed and manufactured circuit boards. The barn also housed our Palomino horse and two calves at various times in the winter. We put hay in the top of the barn but kept it from the sides because the roof leaked. The building that you can barely see to the right of the barn came from the Leonard & Alberta Sigurdsen farm to the east north of County Road 12. There was an old farm house that my parents had burnt down into the basement and covered up with sand. You can still see part of the foundation of the old house today. The trailer house covers over the old foundation. The Nelson family added on the white front entry way and eventually painted the whole house white but here you can see it is still golden. There were apple trees, plums, raspberry bushes. A couple of times we were visited by one of the previous owners named Venard Olson who fondly told us of the time he lived there. Leonard Sigurdsen bought it from Olson and then sold it to a family named Feela who sold it to my parents. I loved all my time spent on this farm from mowing grass, baling hay, 4-H, football, baseball and basketball on the barn. I wish I could buy it back. I will go by it again this Friday 1-15-2016.
