The Barn!!! This was the barn owned by the OARDC when they had dairy cows. There was a milking parlor in the center area, and the lower floor of the wing at the far end was the feeding parlor, and where the calves were kept. The upper floor was used for storing the bales of straw, and had some trap doors in the floor to drop straw or hay down for the cows to eat. The houses for the manager and asst. mgr. were down the road to the left a short distance. I'm not sure if the barn is still standing or not. I think it is, but it was left to fall apart when it was turned over to the DNR after the OARDC moved to Fremont. My sibling and I spent MANY hours playing in the hay loft, building fort after fort out of bales of straw, and occasionally building straw bale mazes. There was also a large wind tunnel that ran under the windows overlooking the courtyard. It was used to keep the straw bales from getting musty. I just noticed in the upper right corner, it looks like you may have caught someone in the cow pasture. My siblings and I used to cut across the pasture to the woods just beyond, where we would while away a warm summer day, playing and having picnics. Thanks for the memories!
