1984 - Mt Gilead Primitive Baptist church and burying ground, in Geneva County, Alabama on the Geneva-Houston County Line, Geneva Co Rd 41, between High Bluff and Wicksburg. The county line sets on the right (north) side of this burying ground, one of the oldest most historic in Southeast Alabama. This burying ground serves as the final resting place of several veterans of the War of Southern Planters and Slaveholders 1861-1865, World War l and World War II. It is the final resting place of the only American Revolutionary war Veteran buried in Geneva County. A logging crew a few years ago clear cut the woodlands on three sides of the grounds. In 1996, arsonists set this wood frame church ablaze and burned it to the ground. The small congregation then built a modest cinder block building covered with masonry, where they gather to worship in 2020. Photo courtesy Vintage Aerial
