The south 80 acres of this farm, including the homestead, have been in my family since 1851. Purchased by Ichabod Freeman, the 160 surrounding the homestead was home to Ichabod, his wife, Frances (Peters) and their daughters. Ichabod died in 1852 !! His wife sold the north 80, probably to support the family. Their daughter, Sarah Catherine, married Robert Stayton; they farmed the land until he passed away in about 1898, when their son, James, took over. James married Mable Yeazel, in 1905. James owned 80 acres on the same road, north of 150, which he traded for the original north 80 of the ground in the photo, in 1938. James and Mable had three children, Ralph, Pauline and Wallace. Wallace passed in 1933. Pauline married Raymond Esworthy in 1930. I was born to them in 1949. James died in 1954 and Ralph (wife, Jane Jacobs) continued to farm the 160 acres. My mom died in 2000; I inherited the north 80. Ralph died in 2008 (at almost 101); he deeded the south 80 to my daughter, Elizabeth Leifel Ash.
Many happy days of my childhood were spent at this house and farm! In 1999, Ralph sold 2.5 acres surrounding the house and moved into Ogden. Currently, Paul Esworthy farms the ground.

Wow Paula that is great information. I live two houses away from this home.
