E.L. (Tack) Chumbley planted the apple orchard. The orginial orchard was planted by Dr. Burge who owned the land in the 1920's. Some old greenhouses were torn down at the University of Illinois and he got the windows and built an enclosed porch all the way around the house with windows from the foundation to the roof. Some called it the "glass house."
