Ashmore Estates to the Left

This is Ashmore Estates at 22645 E Co Rd 1050 N, Ashmore, Illinois. Construction started on this, the second almshouse built on what at the time was known as the Coles County Poor Farm with the cornerstone being laid on May 17, 1916 and ending with its completion on September 1, 1916 at a cost of $20,389. The Architect was L.F.W. Stuebe and the Engineer was J.W. Montgomery. This complex operated until 1959. That year, the building and related grounds were purchased and renamed by Ashmore Estates, Inc. for use as a private care facility for people with disabilities. Ashmore Estates closed in 1986. The structure was abandoned and vacant until October 13, 2006 when it was reopened as a haunted house. Storm damage in 2013 resulted in another change of ownership. Since 2014 the owners have performed basic repairs for structural preservation, and intend to feature it as a historic structure and site for paranormal investigation. Looking northwest. This is the same location as 1967 Film Roll 51 Photo 51-ACO-25 (1967 Coles County, IL), 1967 Film Roll 51 Photo 51-ACO-26 (1967 Coles County, IL), 1978 Film Roll 43 Photo 43-XCO-3 (1978 Coles County, IL) and 1982 Film Roll 57 Photo 57-ZCO-26 (1982 Coles County, IL).

I currently own the property where the poor farm and the house are sitting.
