I grew up here, as did my dad and his dad before him. my great granddad, Elmer Carlen, started the Carlen's here. The old barn is gone now as is the brooder house on the west side of the house. The trees around the house are all gone as now as well. This will always be home to me. My nephew owns the property now and it still in the Carlen name. I have so many stories and so much more to tell about this farm that raised around 100 head of cattle a year, hogs, sheep, horses, dogs and kids. We finally got running water and a indoor bathroom in around 1970-1971. Before that our bath tub hung on the side of the garage when not in use. Dad and mom raised most all the food and vegetables that we ate. Mom canned in the neighborhood of 600-700 qts., yes quarts of vegies to get us through the winter. I could write a very happy book about this old farm.
