Motel at the NorthEast Corner of Route 23 And Bethany Road
It was the Golden Harvest Motel and as the previous person commented, it was indeed at the north-east corner of Route 23 & Bethany Road. It was there for a large portion of the 20th Century then torn down in the late 1990s or early 2000s. Then the pond was filled in and an L shaped strip mall was built on the property.
Hi Wayne, Tom;
The Golden Harvest Motel was, from 12/4/57 till 12/26/57, commandeered by the FBI as their local headquarters for their investigation of the kidnapping of 7-year-old Maria Ridulph from a street corner on Sycamore's west side on 12/3/57. As many as 50 to 60 FBI Special Agents were working the investigation in the weeks following the crime. One room facilitated a polygraph specialist who came from FBI HQ in DC. Other rooms were used for interrogation of suspects, and still others were used for a large secretarial pool who typed their reports. And finally, other rooms were used for living quarters for Agents who came from the Chicago, Park Ridge, and Rockford offices.
I am writing a book on the subject, and would like very much to use this photo. I'd also like to see other relevant photo's.
Thanks you,
Dennis
