Indian Plains Elementary School. This was part of the Indian Prairie Community District 204, which was growing rapidly at the time this photo was taken. In April 1984, the Chicago Tribune reported that 46 subdivisions were under construction within the district. Neighboring District 203 (Naperville) saw 1,500 building permits for new homes issued in 1983. During the 1982-83 school year, the Tribune reported that 4th graders at Indian Plains spent the year in a basement storage room. New schools would be built to accommodate this growth. In the fall of 1997, many of the Indian Plains students were moved to the new Cowlishaw Elementary school. Indian Plains was then repurposed as a facility which hosted programs for high school students with various special needs.
