The grain elevator on the right was constructed in 1891 and operated by Allen Miner Eastburn, who owned about 300 acres including this property. This site was sometimes known as "Eastburn" in Sheldon Township. In an 1893 biographical sketch, Mr. Eastburn indicated that he had just established a town to be known as Eastburn, and described it as being located at or near this grain elevator site. The town never materialized, but the elevator stood into the 1980s.
In 1922, H.R. Eastburn reported in The Grain Dealer's Journal that the west side of the elevator was damaged in what may have been a grain dust explosion. The sound of a "subdued explosion" was heard a half-mile away.
