This farm was located on the north side of Rt. 176, just west of the Jewel at Rt. 176 and Midlothian Rd. The field on the upper left is still there. Rt. 176 can be seen on the lower left corner; the view is looking NW. The land is now the subdivision just south of Mechanics Grove Elementary School, which was what Mundelein was known as back in the early days (Mechanics Grove that is, smarty). Before that, it was named Area, my favorite. It almost reads as a vague headline, "Area resident seen driving in the vicinity, sources say". The name was an acronym for "Ability, Reliability, Endurance, and Action", and was dreamt up by Arthur Sheldon, a local school owner, who taught sales techniques and believed in this philosophy. Finally, the earliest name on record is Rockefeller, which was short lived, but I have recently come across the name in a Lake County history book.
