This property is located at 29810 N. Fremont Center Rd. in Fremont Township at the northwest corner of W. Erhard Rd. Most of the farm buildings and silo exist today. The Hertel farm is located in the upper left hand corner of the photo.
The Diebold farm, located on the northwest corner of N. Fremont Center Rd. and W. Erhart Rd., was last managed by George W. Diebold (1948-2018). Prior to his retirement in 2014, he ran the farm along with his mother, Virginia A. (Frederick) Diebold (1919-2009). The farm was originally established in 1872 by George's great-grandfather, also named George Diebold (1836-1916). The patriarch was born in Balkeria, France, settled in a small community near Chicago and was a tailor by trade, served in the Civil War for 3 years, married Catharine Bartmann in 1867 and settled in Fremont in 1872. In 1889, St. Mary of the Annunciation Church purchased four acres of land from George for $400 where a new church was built.
