W.F. Starz & Company operated this grain elevator at Barce in the early 1900s. The October 7, 1904 edition of The Brook Reporter (Brook, Indiana) stated that William Frederick Starz was making arrangements to start construction of a 75,000 bushel elevator, which would be ready to accept grain in time for the 1905 crop. In 1907, the elevator was listed as having 100,000 bushels of storage capacity in the "Annual Reports of the Officers of State of the State of Indiana" (published in 1908). At the time the elevator was served by the Chicago & Eastern Illinois railroad (Brazil Division).
