A beautiful picture of my parent's farmstead in 1979 where my sisters and I grew up and our parents lived for 43 years, after they purchased it in 1962. At the time of this picture, the red maple trees and 3 of the 7 apple and pear trees, the small slanted corn crib and the house and garage were still intact. The garden area and lean-to the barn were added, and an old chicken coop had been replaced by a new machine shed. By 1979, 2 caged cribs and another corn crib, slightly covered by a tree, had been built by my dad, because, most of his corn was picked and stored in the cribs to dry. 37 years later, 3 of the red maples trees have remained. The house was torn down a few years after a new ranch house was built in 1980 on the area of the fruit trees and garden site. Both wooden corn cribs and many of the trees in the grove have been removed. The building site was sold in 2008, and the farmland has remained in our family and farmed by their grandson, Ryan Hansen.
