Photo 36-PLI-9

Comments

This farm belonged to my Grandfather, Charles Maier. When this picture was taken the farm had just been sold to my grandfather's, hired hand, Harold Etzel. He added the large grain elevator and eventually a new machine shed as well. When I was a child, in 1948, the barns were red. Around 1960 the out buildings were painted white. This was a job that all of the Maier grand children did when we were in high school. The farm is now owned by Dennis Etzel (Harold's youngest son) and farmed by him and his wife. The house has always been white and was ordered in parts from Montgomery Ward. Charles Maier, his brother,Wade, plus some fellow farmers put it together by the "numbers." You can still see the numbers on the rafters.
