This is the home of my great grandparents, Edson and Emma Burgner Steele, which they built. My grandparents, Frank and Dola Oxley Steele lived here. At the time of this photo, my 2 sons and I were living here. The house was torn down a few years ago. It was a wonderful home. There was a door in which you could walk out onto the roof which had a tin floor. My father, Dale Steele, recalled as a child his mother putting fresh corn on that tin roof to dry to store for winter. He said it was as sweet as candy. Ad a child and as an adult I loved the sidewalks, which were unusual in the country especially in my childhood. It circled the house from the south patio, to the shady front porch, to the mailbox. The 2 trees at the end of it, where steps led down to the mail box were dug from the timber and planted by my Grandfather, Frank Steele. The roof was shingled with green wooden shingles. My grandfather and one of his relatives both died at different times in that barn. Grandpa in 1966, at the age of 68. My son, Layne Dale Mishler, now owns this.
