This farm, at the time of the photo, belonged to Joe Calvert, but prior to this my grandpa Johnson owned it. Cooper and Lorene Johnson owned and farmed this land in the mid to late 60s, and after they bought another farm nearby, my family lived there for awhile. I started first grade while living here., in the Fall of '69. The house sits nestled under the hill in Tanyard, right on the Butler and Grayson county line, across the road from the cave. If you know Tanyard, you know the cave! The creek runs parallel to the highway at the edge of the front yard, and I had to walk across a bridge dad and my uncles built, (called a foot-log) to then walk up the hill to the highway to catch the school bus. The driveway ran to the left (hidden by trees here) then curved just before the barn and angled towards the highway, meeting Hwy 79 at the driveway of our neighbor, W.T.Mudd. The driveway crossed the creek with no bridge, so if the water was up, you waited to go anywhere, or do what dad did a time or two: pull the fan belt off the car so the fan wouldn't throw water on the distributor, drive through water over the bumper of a '58 Ford, then re-attach it when you got across. No biggie!
The Mudd home has been remodeled, with a large deck added, but still stands. The old house in this picture was recently leveled.
