Kevin and Kristie Brannens house Rt #2

Kevin & Kristie purchased this farm from Earl & Eldora Ackerson (my parents) in 1986. I believe my parents purchased it from the Leavitts (in true Maine tradition it was referred to as "the Leavitt farm" throughout the time it was owned by the Ackersons) and I expect they had lived there 10 years or less at the time of this photo.

I recall my parents telling about the time someone from a "tornado state" stopped and asked to take a picture of the buildings. They were amazed they were all attached. They said they would never attach buildings like this where they were from. They spaced them out in the hope that some would be spared during a tornado.

It was the Leavitt Farm when I stayed there with my Aunt Mabel and Uncle Lewis Leavitt in the late 40's and early 50's. I still remember the beautiful hardwood floors, french doors, and huge kitchen. I also remember there was a porch on the back side of the house that was all glassed in - a lot of panes of glass to wash. Aunt Mabel was an Adams from Linneus. She married Lewis in 1945 and he passed away in 1953. I can still see her with a cotton square scarf tied in a turban on her head and riding on a tractor to help him in the fields. I believe one of his daughters lived across the road and had a set of twins among other children.

Cub scouts, and pond hockey...
