Dave Maxcy farm on Griffin Ridge Road in Mapleton, ME

Formerly the Beaumont & Thelma (Carr) Griffin Farm. Beaumont & Thelma had 2 duaghters born on this farm - Jackie & Janet. Dave Maxcy married Janet Griffin and they settled on the farm. Dave & Janet raised their 7 children here.
The big barn burned down 1973. The potato house had to be torn down in the late 90's due to the walls caving in.
Dave & Janet still reside in the large farmhouse and the farm is still being used for raisng crops.
The potato house on the opposite side of the road belongs to the Currier's - Charlie & Anita Currier still reside here.

The barn(42' x 100') was built in the late 1800's by Arthur Griffin to store hay and straw which were baled on a hay press (500 lb. bales) and sold to loggers or shipped to Boston. The potato house was rebuilt by Beaumont Griffin in the 1940's and held about 5,000 barrels of potatoes. It was state of the art in its time with a steel inside frame, trench system bin un loader, ventilator, and a vapor barrier. The farmhouse started as a small house to the rear in the 1860's and was completed in the early 1900's. In 1965 90 acres of potatoes ,Katahdins, Kennebecs, and Russets, were planted with 50 acres of oats and buckwheat on the Hale Road. Typical for a Aroostook County farm in 1965. For many years the cropland has been rented to W.C. Doyon and Sons.
