Everett Towle farm ln Fort fairfield
This is a picture of my family's farm on Maple Grove Rd. Fort Fairfield, Maine. My grandfather LaForest Valdesa Towle built the house in 1868. My father, Everett Towle Sr. Farmed the 100 acres 35 years before he retired at the age of 65. The farm was sold to a nephew in 1974. The house burned sometime around 1976-1978.
I visited my cousins here many times. Always had a Great time and loved playing in the barn.
I am 2nd oldest of Everett Towle Sr. When I lived on the farm the buildings were in much better condition. Like Susan I loved playing in the barn. I don't think it was safe anymore when this picture was taken. The farm was built by LaForest, but he was our Great Grandfather, not our grandfather. Our grandfather, Hiram Towle farmed the farm between LaForest and my father. So many memories, I could write a book!
Thanks for sharing I have some nice memories of the Towel Farm
However we could not enter the barn or out buildings
I was Everett Towle's 5th child, Jackie's younger sister, older than Everett Jr. My siblings and I all worked on the farm picking potatoes, picking rocks and cutting seed which we got paid for. We also had a large garden which we had to weed that we didn't get paid for! I loved playing with my siblings and loved having relatives visit. I wonder what collapsed the roof of the potato house. Snow? Or just disrepair.
Some of my family also dispute the date of 1965. The thought is closer to 1960 to 1961 . There are buildings in this picture that are claimed to have been torn down by 1965.
