Wondering if this is the Cook Farm on the West Chapman Road, Mapleton?

I think they called it, The Elms. Clayton Baird (Grampy) was a half brother to the Cook kids.

Yes it was the Don Cook place.

I was born and raised in this home, as was my father and his father. My great grandfather built the house and ait was added on to again and again to accommodate large and extended families. I was born in the room in the front of the house, far right window. Lived here with 3 brothers, Pete, (Donald), John, Tom and sister Cathy. my mother Blanche, lived here many years and died there at age 50 (same bedroom where I was born). I was 16 at that time, 1957. My daughter Robin was born there a year later and I lived there for another year. My father Don, lived there most of his life, except for his college training then farmed the 600 acres with his brother Sterling until he retired and remarried to Jean Case. He died in 1978 and Jean refused to sell the home to anyone in the family, and sold to a family from Massachusetts. And then land was sold to Willard Doyen and the house changed hands again to a couple from Presque Isle. Upon problems with mortgages, they refused to sell back to the family and on September 6, 2006 the house burned to the ground. The land that the house was sitting on was then sold to the Doyens. A lot more history is available but way too much to relate here.

I grew up in this house - lots of memories.

I am Bobbi Rand's daughter and Ruth Cook Rand's granddaughter. I remember as a child it seemed like it took forever to get to Mapleton from Presque Isle! I have fond memories of laughter, teasing & so much fun at Uncle Sterling & Aunt Ferne's and at Uncle Don & Aunt Jean's. I remember only Don, Sterling, Mabel, & Bernice. I remember hearing of a brother who drown, so sad. Beautiful Family, Farm & Farm Land!!!
It's a shame the farm didn't stay in the family. I believe Clayton Baird was a step brother to the Cook kids. Coincidentally, I live just down the road from where the farm once stood.

Oh, yes! I am one of the Cook kids (Cathy) and live in Phoenix. Chris has remembered more of the history that I can. I have nothing but fond memories of living on this farm.

Dear Christine Cook Malloy and Cathy McDaniel

I would be very glad, if one or both of you could contact me.
I was looking for a long time for Donald F. Cook and recently found out, that he has passed away in 1989.

If you read this, please give me a short wink.

Thank you so much!
