Town of Van Buren looking across the river from St. Leonard N.B.

Old US Customs building on the left at end of the bridge and across the Customs to the right by the railroad tracks lived Fidele St. Amand family. House was sold after his passing, and a few years later was bought and torn down in order to accommodate the building of the new US Customs & Immigration expansions. All the old potato houses and warehouses along the river were eventually demolished as well as houses on that row and railroad to also accommodate the building of the new US Customs & Immigration. Alot has changed since then - used to be able to walk across the bridge to St. Leonard. We all knew the local guys working at the US Customs. Now, need passports and get questioned to the nth degree by customs officers who know nothing of our Acadian French heritage and were trained on the Mexican border. Not easy anymore to cross the bridge to visit relatives on the Canadian side.

I grew up in van bure, I was raised on Park street My parents were Albert &Irene St.pierreThis is a great memory of my younger days how sweet it is to see thisI can almost see our house.
