Roderick farm on corner of Roderick Rd and Benton Ave in Winslow, ME. Only the building in the bottom of the photo exists today. All other buildings came down in the 90s.

Correction, this was the Deane farm

It was last known as the Stanley Auger Farm before the round barn it was "accidentally" destroyed by fire.

I worked on this farm the summer after my graduation from Winslow High in 1952; very interesting experience.
The farm, at that time was know as the Corbett Farm. Donald Corbett & family lived in the home at bottom of photo.
The farm was primarily a dairy farm at that time, but had vegetables, laying hens, chickens, etc.. In time Mr. Corbett would be very successful in the poultry business (Fort Halifax Poultry & Packing CO.) A building at UMO is named after Donald Corbett. This farm, originally, was the Dean Farm. James Lowell Dean was a Chief Engineer at the Hollingsworth & Whitney Paper Co and owned considerable land in Winslow and also served in the local town government. A daughter, Francelia (Frankie) Dean, married Donald Corbett. A Charles Auger & family would later own the Corbett Farm. It ceased to be a working farm in the early 80's. Round Barn place on Nat. Historic Registry in 1982. It burned to the ground in 1991. There was no power to the the structure at the time ! All the area you see, plus land to the right of the Roderick Rd (not visible) is filled with Desrosier's Condos today ("Heartland Estates"). Since Dec 5, 2014, I and my wife, Jo Ann,have lived in one of these condos !

Thanks Jack for info.(Connie Girard) moved across the road from Corbett’s 1943. The house is still there with the long driveway. Mrs. Corbett would catch us kids in her apple trees. They had horses.we ran around that barn many times. Memories

Lived on Benton Ave. from 1943 to 1963. Some workers at the barn were,Patterson, Neil Hawes, Kingsbury ,St. Peter.

Us neighborhood kids would sneak into the barn and build hay forts. Got caught several times and got chased out. Good memories!

The large field on the right side of the Roderick RD (only partially visible in this photo) used to be an air strip in the late 1920's & 30's. It was called Dean's Field. "Fly-Ins", flying lessons, plane rides took place there. Tickets were sold. It did not take too much area to take off and land with the planes of that time.. Our condo is located where would have been the south west corner of that air strip.I can look through a stand of trees and see the former H & W Mill house where I lived from 1934-1956. My father, Campbell, told me the info about the air strip. His twin brother, Kenneth, owned his own plane and was one who landed and took off from this air strip. I have his flying "Log Book" as a keepsake.
Great reading your comments, Connie & Ted.
