St. John the Baptist Church (Corpus Christi Parish), 26 Monument St, Winslow ME: http://www.corpuschristimaine.org/st_...

The large building complex beyond the church is the St John Catholic School: http://www.stjohnschoolwinslow.org/

The addition to the school (upper left) was in 1964 - 65. Ground floor-new cafeteria, upper left -classrooms, some with labs. Original plan- add a 9th grade, never happened. South structure attached to school was the residence of the Sisters of St Josephs who serviced the school . Father Emmanuel Grondin was the Pastor. He came to Winslow in 1953. This new St John the Baptist Church & Rectory was dedicated in August 1957. The original church was to the left of the parking lot.some of it was still standing in 1964-65. It was built like a "T";
Church in the center and a North wing & a south. the wings contained the classrooms and were added at different time (South, 1926-27; North, 1939). Church & south wing were on slabs; North wing - foundation & would serve as Parish Hall & cafeteria. Then, School had better then 300 students K-8. Today, counting Pre K-7;
about 70 students ! No more Sisters ! Their former residence used for Religious Education Programs. With the decline in number of Priests for the entire state, many churches have been closed and Parishes have been combined. St John's now part of Corpus Christi Parish (Winslow, Waterville, Fairfield, Vassalboro, Oakland).
In 1964 their were (3) Priests at St John's. Today there are (2) for the entire Corpus Christi Parish !
