I grew up in this house on Fore Street. Owned from 1938 to sometime in the early 70's by Albert Twitchell. When I was a small child there was an underpass which allowed the owner to access his fields which are on the other side of the track. I remember when the underpass was filled in and replaced by the grade crossing. Equipment had become too large to go under the railroad. The road in the lower left is Main Street (route 26) and was built to bypass the railroad in the 1930's.Many of the properties on the west side of Fore Street went all the way to the river. When this area was settled there was no railroad or Main Street between Fore Street and the river.

Hi Roger,
Thank you for the history of this area and property! What kind of farming did your family do on this property? Also what kind of trees are growing near the road, they look interesting.

The trees in front of the house are sugar maples, the taller trees on the side of the road are elms, all dead now. There is a row of cedar trees separating this house from the neighbors to the north. During my growing up years we had several thousand laying hens but also raised replacement milk cows.
