This is the post office in Mattawamkeag. The diner to the right in no longer there. The post office building was originally home to a Masonic Lodge.
On the right, used to be Dolly's Diner.
Oh boy, do I remember the A-1 Diner.. Went there everyday to get a coke and Fries.. There were two pinball machines in the little room on the side.. I remember there being an apartment in the back..
This building is still the Masonic Lodge.
THE BUILDING ON RIGHT WAS SHORETTES DINER
I believe the lower right side of this building was a Town and Country Clothing store run by Anna McCafferty around this time. I moved to 'Keag in 1960 at 10 years old.
In the 50's the clothing store was owned by Harlan Randell and Cora Noonan worked for him.
My first long winter coat came from there.
