This is our house. Robert & Deborah Gardner 304 Bacon Rd Mercer ME We bought the house in May 1979. All the buildings were there, however most of the elms had already died. We have removed the smaller barn , the equipment shed on the house side, and the smaller shed. The cupalo has been rebuilt as the wood was rotting. We have restored the house which was built in 1869. Electricity had come down the road in the late 30's and ended at the house. In the 90s the power line was extended past the house which increased the amount of traffic on the road which had previously not been plowed in winter. The dairy farming ended in the 70's but we are restoring the fields with an organic farmer. The old orchard, which once supplied apples to Boston have been trimmed, and the old varieties have been documented by John Bacon who was born in the house in the beginning of the century. The land is in tree growth and the land is managed within the guidelines of a management plan.
