I am almost positive this is the Skanee farm where my mother and her family lived. Her Swedish parents, Erick Julius and Elin Sophia Erickson, raised nine children here. Most, of not all, were born here. My grandfather was known as “Big Erick” and was Henry Ford’s logging contractor.
I recognize the house, but the outbuildings are no longer there. I have a vivid memory of summer days on the farm- a Yellow Transparent apple orchard along the driveway, a large log barn, summer kitchen, horse barn, chicken coop, and two outhouses. There was a cattail-rimmed pond behind the big barn.
