This was my Grandparents (Avery's) home when I was growing up. So many fond memories here!
My future in-laws lived here when I met the family & my now husband with his 3 brothers & a sister lived in 1962. At that time the place did not have an indoor bathroom & only cold water from a old pitcher pump in the kitchen. The house was heated with wood then changed to a stove that used fuel oil. I can still see my father in-law working that large garden year after year. Canned vegetables, fresh potatoes, carrots, squash, & cabbage was stored in the root cellar or later called a Michigan basement when enlarged. I did not like going down there to get jars of pickles or jam & green beans; I sure did like eating the good healthy foods they grew & processed for the winter.
