Stuckey's Pecan Shoppe opened in 1966, it was part of a national chain that started in 1935. By '66, our Stuckey's was one of 200 in 35 states. It was a forerunner of our current "fast foods." Located next to the X-way, it was a nice stop offering burgers, sandwiches, ice cream, coffee as well as pecans, fancy canned goods, jellies and souvenirs. Their chocolate was wonderful and my grandma adored their pecan rolls, gooey treats of nuts rolled around fondant. Texaco gas flowed from one of FOUR pumps! This location just west of 68th. Avenue is now the site of a Shell Station combined with a Burger King.
