Feoder Henning farm....north of the Rost church

12 children of Feodor and Lola Henning raised in this house. I was born in this house in 1947. The big hip-roof barn went down in the wind many years ago. Many other outbuildings also gone. My Grandparents Fred and Wuebke Henning moved to this quarter section in 1904 from Illinois with two children.

The big barn was taken down by a tornado in 98 (I believe). We had had a week of crazy storms so we were all sleeping one the first floor (so we could get to the basement faster). An earlier lightening storm had blown up our computer so we were in the process of hooking up the new one and glanced up and saw the funnel drop down. We grabbed the kids and the sleeping bags and ran to the basement. As we rounded the corner from the laundry room, we saw the barn 'unfold'-the roof peeled back from west to east followed by the east wall. I will never forget how it reminded me of the toy barns you can open up and see the insides. Thankfully we didn't have livestock and none of us were hurt. It was a very nice old barn though. Most of the trees in this photo are gone (except the big pines nearest the house). Luke replanted a new grove along the north and west side about 20 years ago so now the trees are getting to be quite big.
