Showboat Ballroom near Lake Benton? No longer there.
My grandfather, Otto Petersen built the Showboat Ballroom at his summer resort and open it's doors in 1918. My father, Vernell (Pete) Petersen was born and raised in the family home not shown in this image but near ballroom. I'm thrilled to see this. Thank you!
I don’t know a Terry Detherage? Far as I know my Uncle Vernal had only Four children. His daughter Pam is the only one that called her dad Pete. My grandpa Otto Petersen and wife Wanda built the Showboat and my dad was born in the cook shack that was pulled over the frozen lake to be used for a temporary home until the main house was built. It was a lovely home with a fireplace in the living room. The home was three stories with a full sized stand up attic. Grandpa Otto sold the Showboat to my folks and retired to California. My Grandma Wanda died at age 49. I was 3 years old . My sister Susan my brother Waldron Jr. and I’m Karen Petersen I lived at the Showboat Home for 15 years before moving into Lake Benton in 1959 with my family. Grandpa Otto and Grandma Wanda had 5 children. My dad Waldron first born in 1918 the night of the opening dance. Marilyn /married Charles Spark Pipestone,MN.,Vernell/married Betty,Delores married Daryl Dressen,Vion was the youngest. Delores Dressen is the only child of Otto Petersen living. My husband and I donated a brass ships port hole grandpa used as windows in the upper bar area in the Showboat. MNy other items. The person who wrote the article about me spelled my name wrong and mixed the story up! I have lots of dance, bands information I will donate soon.I can be contacted at Karen “Petersen” Larson P.o.Box 90 Conchas Dam, NM 88416 Nothing is left of the Showboat or the lovely home. Everything is overgrown with trees.
My Grandfather ran the Showboat for many years. This is a great shot. We were at the site last summer and it’s all gone.
Where does Louis Bogdos fit into the showboat history? Have a ashtray with the name as manager.
thanks
I knew Waldron Jr fairly well. I built the basement under his house. He and his wife were wonderful people. Waddy and l had many conversations about the Showboats history. They were special people.
