This was the homestead of my great-great-great grandparents John Diedrich & Elizabeth Gohmann. They settled here on the banks of the Mississippi in early 1856, making this one of the earliest homesteads in Stearns County. Family stories indicate that they first lived in a cave or dugout in the side of the hill before building a log cabin closer to the river. The barn shown here is the original and lasted until just a couple of years ago. John Diedrich sold the homestead to his son (also named John Diedrich Gohman) in 1879, but he then sold it ten years later to the Kiffmeyer family. The Kiffmeyer's farmed here until 1950, when it was purchased by Norbert & Valeria Gohman. It has remained in the Gohman family ever since, with their sons Lloyd & Leroy farming here currently.
