This gracious country home was said to have been built for the daughter of some of the county's founders, and was only 1/2 mile to the southwest of the oldest brick house in the county. Full of high ceilings with a formal front parlor with ceiling to floor windows, this house had built in cabinetry between the kitchen and dining room and had huge pantry on the west side of the back kitchen. The deep well at this farm, located just NW of the west kitchen door gave water of excellent quality. This house was also well designed with four porches and lots of windows for cross-drafts during hot Missouri summers. A cemetery with graves of some of the earliest county founders in on the north end of the farm. Names such as Bates and Gentry are associated with the farm.

None of the buildings in this picture still stand. The trees are all that remain. My family farms this place
