Owned by Salem Church Preservation Society since 1999. The church closed in 1972 and it became the John Fletcher Christian College & Academy, which closed in 1995. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

The building at left was constructed in 1910 as Carter School in Harlan County. It was moved to this site in 1978.
