Eggtown Community, the store belonged to Two Buck Randall and later to his son Fred and was passed down to Fred's grandson, Kelvin. This was where all the farmers gathered to catch up on the news and to have a soda pop and hoop cheese. I've had many soads there myself.

Anne &Bill Allen was my aunt & uncle, use to go to that store all the time. They owned thr store (Bob Allen) store in Burnsviile when i was young

Country Store/Gulf Gas Station

It was a little piece of local goodness in the Eggtown community, just outside of Ansonville, NC. I remember going there a few times as a kid. Had a friend who lived down the road from it. Sometimes we'd walk there and get popsicles on a hot summer day...

This was my grandfather’s store - my mother Kate Randall was the youngest of his 5 children. Fred Randall was my uncle. The times I came to visit loved visiting the store. In winter it was warmed by a pot belly stove and farmers sitting around playing checkers and slap Jack card games.

Thank you for sharing your memory with us, Cathy! We love hearing personal stories about the places in our collection. Do you remember any other details about the store or the surrounding area from that time period? We're always looking for more information to add to our records. Also, have you been back to the area since 1984? It'd be interesting to hear about any changes you've seen.

My mother was raised just behind the store. Her parents owned the land that joined the store. My grandparents were Frank n Rena Threadgill Preslar. They had already passed when I was born and that was 69 years ago and today is my Birthday.. There was a post office across the road from the store and my grandfather Frank ran it. As a small child the black man that worked n lived on oyr farm would take me to the store on the tractor with me in the trailer for a drink. We lived two miles from the store at my dads home place. My Mon n Dad was William Guy Lee n Maggie Preslar Lee. My sister n husband, David n Emily Lee Edwards lived the my moms home place until her death in 2021. It is owned by her Son n daughter now, Rhonda E Housley n Alan Edwards. We have a neighbor that is still living at the age of 95 and a great mine.

My grandparents John (Two Buck) and Ora (my middle name was Ora) lived across the road from the store. Their phone was on a party line with the store. My uncle Fred Randall lived next door which was across a pasture and later his son Harvey built a house on the other side of my grandparents. My grandmother raised chickens and had fresh eggs. All the children and grandchildren would gather at my grandparents at least one Sunday a month. Part of the family attended Red Hill Baptist Church and have many family members buried there.Eventually the house was rented out for awhile. I have been back for funerals to the area. It saddens me the store was not able to stay open. My grandfather never let a child leave without a piece of candy. The country music singer Randy Travis visited the store several times while uncle Fred ran it. Randy’s sister was living in the house across from Uncle Fred - and another uncle had lived there in that house in the early 1960’s. The story about why my grandfather was called Two Buck came about when he owned a saw mill. The workers would ask for an advance on their pay and the most he would give was two bucks. During WWII he leased some of his land to the military to practice bombing with bags of flour . My mother Kate Randall Coggins was valedictorian of Ansonville School and played basketball for the school and for Wingate College

Thank you so much for sharing your memories of the store and the surrounding area! We love hearing stories from the community about the places in our Vintage Aerial photos. Do you have any other memories you could share about what the area looked like in 1984, or how it's changed since then? It's amazing to think about the history that's contained in these photos.
