this house caught on fire and the lady who lived there died in the fire. Smoking in bed.

Holland that is a very sad story, did you have any connection to the family? Do you know the current address for this photo? If so, I would be happy to update the location on the map!

Hi Nathan . I do not have the exact address. Somewhere in the 1960's Greensboro St Extension area. IF I remember ( and if there is a number on the mailbox ) I will post here. The lady ( husband wasnt home ) was a chain smoker and was bed ridden at the time and caught her bed on fire. I heard she had a number of close calls but never learned her lesson. The house doesnt look like it will be repaired. Very burnt up but still standing.

This was my grandfather’s home that my parents moved in to after he passed away. I find it extremely rude that people on here would be talking about her death. However, since that’s the way the internet is, I’ll clear it up. My mother had extremely bad COPD. Yes she smoked, but wasn’t a chain smoker as the person above said. There is speculation that she fell asleep while having one lit, but the official fire report list it as being undetermined. My father worked nights and was just getting off work when it happened. I personally have sold the property to my grandfather’s neighbor. He is currently tearing down what was left.

Now there will be no more speculation

Gonzo, I apologize for offending you. I was only repeating what I have heard from neighbors. I often spoke to the man of that house after the fire and helped with feeding the cats there. My intentions were not to offend anyone.

Holland, that would have been my father. Sadly he passed in July of last year. It didn’t offend me, I just felt like people probably shouldn’t be discussing my mother’s death. Thank you for the help with the cats.
