Withers farm - Page Road, Broadway
this house was built in 1922 by John W. Butler, a cousin to the R. T. (Bob) Butler family. Jimmy Butler, (a pilot who was killed in the Vietnam war) Geraldine Butler, Carolyn Butler, and Earl Butler were all born in this house. The farm was taken by forclosure in 1949. My daddy (Bob Butler) bought the farm back the same year from Mr. Nickleious who foreclosed on the property for an outstanding debt. We (Bob, Euna Mae, Carol, Thomas, Robert, and Allen Butler moved from the "Old Place" (presently the home of John Daskal and his wife Carol Butler Daskal) in the 1947/48 era. When we move there the house consisted of 3 rooms; a bedroom, a kitchen, and a living room. All 4 children slept in the same bedroom. Mama and Daddy slept in the living room. Daddy later added two bedrooms, a den, and a bathroom.
The tobacco barn in the lower right-hand corner was taken down in 1994 to widen the road to the new hog farm. The packhouse with shelter was taken down due to deterioration of the roof and the building in general. The chicken coop was destroyed during a hurricane by the pecan in front of it. We
