This Jamesville, N.C., farm has been in my family for more than 100 years. It belongs to my mother, now, but before her, it was the home of J. Wendell and Ruby Modlin and their daughter, Nancy. They have all passed away in the 29 years since this photo was taken.
Unfortunately, an arc fault in the attic created a fire that burned the home on the property to the ground in January 2014. The hog pasture has long been out of use and reclaimed by nature, and several of the sheds under the oak trees in the back yard have been destroyed by storms.
The main barn remains standing and the driveway is still intact. The land is no longer farmed, however, and has been planted with pine trees.
It's still a beautiful place filled with many wonderful memories.
Rob Thank you for the very detailed history of this property, we love to see and hear about generational farms. When the farm was active what type of farm was it?
