Boyd's Lake, Hamlet, NC 28345 Watched over by the eagle eye of Mrs. Boyd. Bath house to the left and snack bar and upstairs dance floor on the right. Spent a lot of summer days there.
Looks like a great place, I am looking at the map it appears that Boyds Lake has dried up. Any Idea if that happened naturally or was it drained?
Answer to Nathan Lewis question: One of the Boyd's was into real estate. He sold lots on the hills around the lake. All the homes were on septic tanks and eventually the bacteria level in the lake became too high and had to close. Not being maintained, the damn broke, took out the bridge and road. A temporary clay damn was put in place and that washed away. Finally beavers moved in, made their standard stick and mud dam. Eventually, the lake was reclaimed by nature. All sorts of vegetation and trees now occupy what used to be one of Hamlet's youth's favorite places. Water flowing through there comes from the springs around Marks Creek Church. The flow never varies summer or winter.
