This house was built by Walter Elwood Spencer and his wife Acie Ruth Dodson Spencer. The land once belonged to Walter’s father Richard Thomas Spencer who purchased it from the Fodderill family. The field in the back of the house was used for a garden and tobacco farming. The woods next to the fields contained a creek named Mountain Branch. There is also a natural spring. The road used to be called Jute Road in the early 1900s.
