St. Paris Feed and Grain elevator on US Route 36 (E. Main St.) St. Paris. The metal sided building in front burned to the ground in spring of 1976. Johnson-St. Paris, Christiansburg, Rosewood, Fletcher and Urbana Fire responded. I could see the flames -not just the glow, but actual flames-when leaving Christiansburg, 6 miles straight line distance. The metal siding made the building act like a big chimney. I was on a 1 1/2" line on the west side, putting in water through a small door. The air rushing in almost pulled my helmet off. Long night. The grain silos and the store building close to the highway are still standing

I own the building across the street along the railroad tracks. That actual building still exists but the outside has been covered and the roof replaced with an addition on the back of it. This used to be a gas station and garage, the garage still has the lift cylinder in the floor. I purchased this is 2000.
